It does not mean the item is used if the umbrella top canopy is a little wrinkled, it is because of the polyester fabric. When it is open, the wrinkle will disappear.

Update Still no fading, now issues now in our fourth season.Now completing our second season with this umbrella I have no complaints. It s easy to crank open and to close. The tilt mechanism was a real plus but living on the Eastern Plains of Colorado it s really windy out here and we rarely use the tilt feature. However, this is where the vented top come in handy as it defuses the sturdy breezes we get.
